Using DocuShare Windows Client to Check Out a Microsoft Word document from DocuShare locks the file while the document is open in Word. Use Save from Word’s File menu to save changes and keep control with DocuShare.
Close the document and complete the DocuShare Check-in Wizard to return the document to a normal state in DocuShare.
Selecting Save As… from the Microsoft Word File menu creates a new document and saves the file locally. Ownership and editing control is with Microsoft Word and the user’s local file system. This action releases the lock on the original document in DocuShare. If the document must be stored locally until edits are completed, use the DocuShare Windows Client to Lock the Document. When edits are complete select Save As New Version… from the DocuShare menu under the Microsoft Word File menu. This will check-in the edited version and unlock the document in DocuShare.
