How To Properly Shut down Windows Explorer and Restart it without Restarting or Logging off the PC

Note: This applies to Windows 2000, 2003, and 2008 Servers

1. Open a Command Prompt window

2. Hold down the Ctrl + Alt +Shift Keys and Click Start | Shut Down | Cancel while those three keys are depressed. This will end Windows Explorer.

3. In the Command Prompt window type explorer and press Enter to restart Explorer

Note: Windows may take a minute or so but all the previous Windows except the Explorer windows will return.
