UNC URLs do not work after an upgrade to DS601Update1 patch 36
For example: A DocuShare URL Object such as \\fqdn\path_to_file\filename no longer works if you click on it.
The DocuShare URL objects that refer to files on Windows do not work in IE6 or IE7 with Windows XP SP3 and above.
In Windows XP SP2, Internet Explorer disables them by default but Microsoft has a tech note on how to enable them by making a registry change using regedit (Please contact Microsoft for this tech note). However, this registry fix does not appear to have any effect on Windows XP SP3.
Firefox blocks UNC and file: URLs in HTML pages by design. However, there is an add on that is provided by Firefox that allows this to work for Firefox 3 on XP SP3. (Please contact Firefox for this add on)
The best fix is to move the affected files into DocuShare and refer to them that way instead of as a UNC URL object.
NOTE: Docushare 6.0.1 Update 3 has made a change to the way that //a/b/c and \\a\b\c are handled in DocuShare; they now are all normalized to file: URLs. For example, DocuShare recognizes that a URL object with the title \\a\b\c or //a/b/c is a UNC and changes it to file://a/b/c. However, these changes did not fix the issue when using IE6 and IE7 with SP3.
