Summary: DocuShare displays this message when the installed CKEditor version is identified as insecure. Apply the applicable DocuShare maintenance update. For DocuShare 7.7, the issue is fixed in Patch 1. After the update, clear the browser cache if the warning remains.
Issue
The following message may be displayed in DocuShare Enterprise:
CKEditor 4.22.1 version is not secure
This message indicates that the CKEditor JavaScript component delivered to the browser is an older version that has been identified as insecure. It is not resolved by dismissing the message or by clearing the cache alone when the server still delivers the older component.
Resolution
Install the latest available DocuShare patches, updates, and security fixes that apply to your release. Always confirm the exact release, patch level, operating system, and installation type before applying an update, and follow the update documentation supplied with the package.
For DocuShare 7.7, this issue is fixed in DocuShare 7.7 Patch 1:
- DocuShare 7.7 Patch 1: https://docushare.xerox.com/doug/dsweb/View/Collection-19479
Important: Patch 1 is the documented minimum fix for this issue on DocuShare 7.7. If a later 7.7 maintenance update is available for your environment, use the later update according to its prerequisites rather than stopping at an older patch.
Recommended Maintenance Approach
- Record the current DocuShare release and patch level from the DocuShare administration interface or product information page.
- Check the applicable Xerox DocuShare download location for the latest supported patch, update, or security release for that release line.
- Review the package documentation, prerequisites, backup requirements, and supported upgrade sequence.
- Back up the DocuShare database, content, and configuration information according to the applicable procedure.
- Install the update during an approved maintenance window and restart DocuShare as directed.
- Verify that the CKEditor warning no longer appears and test normal document editing workflows.
Clear the Browser Cache After Updating
If the warning is still displayed after Patch 1 or a later applicable update has been installed, the browser may still have cached the older CKEditor files.
- Clear the browser cache.
- Close and reopen the browser, then sign in to DocuShare again.
- Repeat the check in the affected editor or page.
Do not skip the update: Clearing the browser cache refreshes the files used by that browser; it does not update CKEditor on the DocuShare server. Apply the applicable patch first, then clear the cache if necessary.
Upgrade Recommendation
If you have a valid DocuShare support agreement, upgrade to the latest supported DocuShare release, together with its latest available patches and security updates. A current release provides the most complete set of product fixes and security maintenance.
An upgrade must follow the supported path for your current release. Do not assume that a direct upgrade is supported, and do not skip required intermediate releases or patches. Review the current Xerox DocuShare upgrade documentation and confirm the path with DocuShare Support when needed.
- If you remain on DocuShare 7.7, install Patch 1 or a later supported 7.7 maintenance update.
- If you are eligible to move to a newer DocuShare release, plan the upgrade first and apply the latest patches for the target release.
When to Contact Support
- The warning remains after installing the applicable update and clearing the browser cache.
- Different users or browsers receive different CKEditor versions.
- The update fails, the expected patch level is not displayed, or DocuShare services do not start after maintenance.
- You have custom web resources, integrations, or an unsupported upgrade history.
When contacting support, provide your DocuShare version and patch level, browser and version, affected URL or page, screenshots, update log, and the result after clearing site data.
