| Audience: DocuShare administrators |
Applies to: Xerox DocuShare 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 8.0, and 8.1 (on-premises).
If a Content Rule that previously worked stops running, check the account that owns the rule. DocuShare runs the rule using its owner's credentials and permissions. The owner must be an active user with the user level and permission required to run Content Rules.
Symptoms
The configured event occurs, but the Content Rule does not run. On the DocuShare server, open DSServer.stdOut in the server's log directory. By default, this file is in <DocuShareHome>\logs\DSServer.stdOut. If your installation uses a different log directory, check the Log File(s) Directory setting on the Logging Configuration page.
Example log message: Owner of Subscription-688 is not permitted to run content rules. The subscription number shown in your log may differ.
Search DSServer.stdOut for 'not permitted to run content rules' and review entries around the time the rule should have run.
Cause
The Content Rule owner may have been deactivated, changed to a user level that cannot run Content Rules, or otherwise lost the required permission. In DocuShare, the CPX user level includes the ability to run Content Rules.
Check and Correct the Owner
1. Open the subscription permissions URL. Use the DocuShare server address and Subscription handle for your rule. For example: https://company.com/dsweb/ServicesLib/Subscription-688/Permissions. Replace company.com with your DocuShare server name and Subscription-688 with the handle for your Content Rule. Sign in if prompted.
2. Open the owner's user settings. On the permissions page, select the listed owner to open that user's settings. Confirm that Active User is set to Yes and User Level is CPX, which includes the permission to run Content Rules.
3. Restore an eligible owner. If the account is inactive, reactivate it according to your organization's access policies. If it does not have the required user level, assign an eligible active account or change the rule owner to an active CPX user who is authorized to own and run the rule.
4. Test the rule. Perform the event that should trigger the rule and confirm that the expected action completes. If it still does not run, review the DocuShare server log for the relevant time and contact your DocuShare administrator or support representative.
Recommended Practice
Use an organization-managed account for Content Rule ownership. Keep it active, maintain the required CPX user level, and review rule ownership when accounts are deactivated or user levels change. Grant only the access needed for the account's operational responsibilities.
