How to Specify or Change the SMTP Server DocuShare Uses to Send Email
Use this procedure to change the base SMTP server name or port configured for DocuShare. The steps apply to DocuShare 7.x, 8.0, and 8.1; available prompts and options can vary by release and installation.
When to Use This Procedure
Use dssetup for a standard SMTP relay that does not require SSL/TLS or SMTP authentication. This procedure changes the base DocuShare SMTP host and port; it does not configure secure SMTP credentials, Microsoft 365 OAuth, or the Email Agent mailbox.
| Important: If <dshome>/config/emailService.properties exists, the DocuShare Email Service configuration takes precedence for system email. dssetup will not let you change the base SMTP host or port while this override is enabled. Use dsemailService to change that configuration. |
Change the Base SMTP Server
1. Stop DocuShare.
2. Open a command prompt or terminal and change to the DocuShare bin directory.
3. Run dssetup. On Windows, run dssetup.bat; on Linux or Solaris, run dssetup.sh.
4. At the configuration prompts, update DocuShare SMTP server and DocuShare SMTP server port. Update the administrator email address if needed. Accept or update the remaining values as appropriate.
5. Complete the configuration tool and start DocuShare.
6. Send a test notification and confirm that it is delivered through the intended SMTP server.
Use a Different Email Configuration Procedure
- Secure or authenticated SMTP - Use How to Use the dsemailService Command Line Utility for SMTP with SSL/TLS or SMTP authentication. dsemailService configures the DocuShare Email Service and can override the base SMTP settings described in this article.
- Microsoft 365 SMTP with OAuth 2.0 - Use the Microsoft 365 SMTP OAuth 2.0 configuration procedure with dsemailService for Microsoft 365 Modern Authentication. OAuth support is available in DocuShare 8.0 and 8.1; DocuShare 7.x does not gain OAuth support from this base SMTP procedure or from installing the dsemailService launcher alone.
- Inbound email - Use How to Set up the Email Agent for inbound email or mailbox settings. The Email Agent mailbox is separate from the outbound SMTP server used to send DocuShare email.
- Subscription settings - Use the Subscription Service configuration procedure for subscription behavior, schedules, or notification limits. This article covers only the base SMTP server and port.
If Email Still Does Not Send
If you are unsure which mail configuration is active, or if only one type of notification is failing, review the applicable service configuration before changing the SMTP server. Confirm the server name, port, network access, and the authentication method required by your mail provider.
