Summary: The dsindex max_clean option does not set the server to Admin mode, and no action is required from you regarding Admin mode when running this command. This article documents a past documentation error and its correction; it does not describe a product defect.
Issue
An earlier version of the DocuShare Command Line Utilities Guide described the dsindex max_clean option as follows:
max_clean - Comprehensive. Removes old files, compresses the database, defragments the disk, and performs optimize. Sets server to admin mode.
The final sentence, "Sets server to admin mode," was incorrect. The max_clean option does not set the server to Admin mode. This was a documentation error, not a product defect.
Current Status
This documentation error has been corrected. Current versions of the DocuShare Command Line Utilities Guide describe max_clean without the incorrect Admin mode statement:
max_clean - Comprehensive. Removes old files, compresses the database, defragments the disk, and performs optimize.
If you are referencing an older copy of the Command Line Utilities Guide that still contains the incorrect statement, disregard that sentence and obtain the current guide for your DocuShare release.
What This Means for You
- You do not need to set Admin mode before running dsindex max_clean, and you do not need to take any action to clear Admin mode afterward. The command does not change the system mode.
- This is different from dsindex index_all, which does set the server to Admin mode automatically while the operation runs, and restores normal operation when it completes. Do not assume the two commands behave the same way with respect to Admin mode.
- If you want to restrict site access while running max_clean for your own operational reasons, you may set Admin mode manually beforehand using standard site administration steps. This is a choice you can make based on your environment; it is not required by max_clean itself.
Support Guidance
If you observe different behavior than described here, or if dsindex max_clean appears to change the system mode in your environment, contact Xerox DocuShare Support and provide your DocuShare version and patch level, the exact command used, and the site's System Mode value before and after running the command.
