| Important: The upgrade path depends on your current DocuShare version and patch level. Confirm the exact starting build before scheduling an upgrade, and do not skip a required intermediate patch. |
Upgrade to DocuShare 7.7
Upgrades from earlier versions of DocuShare are supported as one-step upgrades from the following starting patch levels.
Upgrade Paths
| Starting version | Upgrade sequence |
| DocuShare 7.0 Update 1 Patch 3 | DocuShare 7.0 Update 1 Patch 3 -> DocuShare 7.7 |
| DocuShare 7.5 Patch 2 | DocuShare 7.5 Patch 2 -> DocuShare 7.7 |
| DocuShare 7.6 Patch 5 | DocuShare 7.6 Patch 5 -> DocuShare 7.7 |
| If you are on an earlier patch level: This article lists the minimum patch level required for a supported one-step upgrade to DocuShare 7.7. If your current release is below the listed starting point for your version, for example DocuShare 7.6 before Patch 5, apply the required patch for your current release first, then follow the one-step path above. Do not attempt to upgrade directly from an earlier, unlisted patch level. |
If Your Ultimate Target Is DocuShare 8.0
| Do not assume this article applies: This article covers upgrading to DocuShare 7.7 only. If you intend to continue on to DocuShare 8.0, use the separate DocuShare 8.0 Upgrade Paths article to plan your complete route. The required minimum patch level can differ by target. For example, DocuShare 7.6 requires only Patch 5 to reach 7.7, but the documented direct route from DocuShare 7.6 to DocuShare 8.0 requires Patch 6, not Patch 5. |
Confirm your ultimate target release before choosing a starting patch level to apply. Upgrading to the minimum level shown in this article is correct only if DocuShare 7.7 is your final destination.
Next Steps After Reaching DocuShare 7.7
If you plan to upgrade further to DocuShare 8.0, DocuShare 7.7 Patch 1 is required before that upgrade. Complete DocuShare 7.7 Patch 1, then follow the applicable sequence in the DocuShare 8.0 Upgrade Paths article.
- DocuShare 7.7 -> DocuShare 7.7 Patch 1 -> DocuShare 8.0
Choosing Between IDOL and Solr
DocuShare 7.7 supports both the IDOL and Solr search engines. If you are still on IDOL and considering Solr as part of this upgrade or a later one, review the DocuShare KB articles that explain the differences between IDOL and Solr and the supported process for moving from IDOL to Solr before you upgrade.
Before You Begin
- Confirm the exact DocuShare version and patch level from the About page and installation records.
- Confirm that the path matches your starting release, operating system, database, search technology, and installation type.
- Request a new license for the upgraded server if required for your target version. A valid support contract is required for a license for a new DocuShare version.
- Back up the DocuShare database, content, configuration, licenses, and any separately managed search data before beginning.
Upgrade Procedure
- Confirm the exact starting version and patch level before downloading the upgrade package.
- Stop DocuShare and complete the required patch for your starting release, if you are not already at the listed minimum patch level.
- Install the DocuShare 7.7 upgrade package and follow the on-screen installation instructions.
- Run all required database and product migration steps. A successful installer transition alone does not confirm that every migration is complete.
- Start DocuShare and verify application access, login, search, scheduled services, integrations, and customer-specific customizations.
- If you are continuing on to DocuShare 8.0, apply DocuShare 7.7 Patch 1 next and follow the DocuShare 8.0 Upgrade Paths article.
Requesting a New License
If a new license is required for your upgraded server, request it by emailing docushare.licenses@xerox.com. A valid support contract is required before a license for the new version can be issued.
Include the server Host ID and the current and target DocuShare versions. The license mailbox is monitored Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST, excluding holidays.
Post-Upgrade Checks
- Confirm the final DocuShare version and patch level.
- Confirm all expected users and groups are visible.
- Test login, content access, search, and document operations.
- Review application, database, and search-service logs for startup or migration errors.
- Confirm separately managed components and integrations are compatible with DocuShare 7.7.
- Do not treat a completed database migration as proof that the full product upgrade succeeded.
Support Guidance
If you need confirmation of an upgrade path, provide DocuShare Support with the exact starting build, patch level, operating system, database, installation type, search technology, and target release.
For upgrade failures, identify the stage where the failure occurred: installer processing, database migration, application startup, search initialization, or post-upgrade feature validation. This distinction is required to select the correct recovery procedure.
Important Information
Upgrade requirements can vary by release, operating system, database, search technology, and installation type. Always review the current DocuShare upgrade instructions before beginning the upgrade.
