Note: This solution applies to the DocuShare client 6.0.4 and higher.
In DS 6.0.4 and higher the only way to see and/or use the ODMA Check In/Check Out Pop-up wizard for Word, PowerPoint (PPT), or any other ODMA (Open Document Management APIC) compliant application is to remove All the DocuShare add-in components. If the DocuShare add-in components are installed you cannot see and/or access the ODMA Pop-up wizard from the ODMA compliant applications.
Note: DocuShare add-ins are available for Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
Solution (if necessary):
To remove All the DocuShare Client Add-In Components:
1. Start | Settings| Control Panel | Add and Remove Programs
2. Select DocuShare Client and click the Change button. The DocuShare Client Setup window displays.
3. Click Next | Select Modify | Select Next
4. Click the drop down menu for the Microsoft Office XP/2003 Integration and select Entire feature will be unavailable
5. Click the drop down menu for Microsoft Office 2007 Integration and select Entire feature will be unavailable
6. Click Next | Next | Install
Note: In previous versions of the DocuShare Client (6.0.3 or earlier), the “File | Open/Save…†As worked differently for Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, but not for Excel because it is not ODMA compliant, depending on the option selected in the DocuShare Client Setting (Properties) | Document tab | ODMA section, Prompt for DocuShare Open/Save dialog (checked or unchecked). This inconsistency between Excel, Word and PowerPoint has been corrected in the new client (6.0.4 and above), so that Word, PowerPoint and Excel all work the same, by using the DocuShare add-in instead of the ODMA pop-up.
Examples of how the DocuShare Client 6.0.4 and higher works:
If the DocuShare add-ins are enabled the following consistent behavior will be exhibited:
Word, PowerPoint and Excel (with add-in Installed)
- The ‘Disable ODMA’ option in the client settings does not affect how “File | Open/Save As…†menu commands and the DocuShare add-in behave.
- The DocuShare add-in always runs the ODMA Open/Save dialog
- The Native “File | Open/Save As…†menu command always runs the native file browse dialog.
Other ODMA Editor Apps (e.g., Visio, Wordperfect, Wordpro, eCopy PaperWare, etc)
- The DocuShare ODMA Pop-Up Open/Save As window will not be displayed, because the DocuShare add-ins are installed.
If ALL the DocuShare Client add-ins are removed the following behavior will be exhibited:
Word and PowerPoint (without add-in)
- The File Open/Save As menu command behaves the same way as it does on any other registered ODMA application. See ‘Other ODMA Editor Apps’ below.
Excel (without add-in)
- File Open/Save As always runs the native dialog, since Excel is not an ODMA application.
Other ODMA Editor Apps (e.g., Visio, Wordperfect, Wordpro, eCopy PaperWare, etc.)
- If the ‘Disable ODMA’ option is checked (ODMA is Disabled)
· The File Open/Save As menu command always runs the native file browse dialog
· The ‘Prompt for DocuShare Open/Save dialog’ option in the DocuShare Client Settings has no effect.
- If the ‘Disable ODMA’ option is unchecked (ODMA is Enabled)
· File Open/Save As runs the ODMA Open/Save dialog immediately.
· If the ‘Prompt for DocuShare Open/Save dialog’ option is enabled, the menu command posts a prompt dialog box so that the user can choose to run the native dialog instead of the ODMA Open/Save dialog.
Note: To Disable/Enable (check or uncheck) ODMA, right click the DocuShare Icon | Select My Work Files | Disable ODMA
