Note: This applies to Windows DocuShare Client 6.5.x with Office 2010 and later.
Issue
Unable to Check Out Word or Excel documents for editing via the DocuShare Windows Client (DSClient),
Reason / Possible Cause
This happens because of the Protected View mode is Enabled in Word or Excel.
Solution
Disable Protected View.
Example for Word & Excel 2010:
1. Click on File | Options. The Word Options window will be displayed.
2. Click on Trust Center on the left and then the Trust Center Settings button.
3. On the next Window, select Protected View on the left
4. Deselect (remove checkmark in checkbox) next to Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet.
5. Click the OK button, then click the OK button again.
6. Close Word or Excel and test Check Out again. It should work without prompting for the Protected Mode.
